On September 3, 2026, Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility brought job seekers and employers together for our annual Employment Services Job Fair, presented in partnership with Open Door Group and WorkBC.
Designed for Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing job seekers, the event created an accessible space for candidates to explore opportunities, make professional connections and engage directly with employers interested in inclusive hiring.
For participating businesses and organizations, the fair offered an opportunity to meet skilled and motivated candidates, promote current and future openings, and learn more about creating accessible and supportive workplaces.
Why inclusive employment matters
Meaningful employment is about more than earning an income. It can help people build independence, develop their skills, strengthen their confidence and contribute to their communities.
Yet many Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing people continue to encounter inaccessible recruitment practices, communication gaps and limited understanding of workplace accommodations. Qualified candidates can be overlooked when application processes, interviews and workplaces are not designed with communication access in mind.
Inclusive hiring begins by recognizing talent and ensuring candidates have an equitable opportunity to demonstrate what they can contribute. Events such as our annual Job Fair help make those connections possible while encouraging employers to consider accessibility throughout the employee journey.
Support that extends beyond the Job Fair
Wavefront Centre’s Employment Services team works with job seekers throughout the year. Our Certified Career Development Practitioners provide employment counselling, job-search support, résumé and interview preparation, skills training and assistance with workplace accommodations.
The team also works directly with employers, offering workplace accessibility solutions, sensitivity training and ongoing support for both employers and employees. Learn more about Wavefront Centre’s Employment Services.
The annual Job Fair is an important part of this work, but lasting change requires continued commitment from employers, community partners and supporters.
