Do you need a hearing test?
We recommend that you book a hearing test with us if:
You have not had your hearing tested in the last 24 months (or ever).
You think you may have a hearing loss.
You work in a loud environment, like a construction site.
Your family and friends have expressed concerns about your hearing.
You have trouble understanding others in noisy situations.
You have a history of ear infections, surgery, or draining ears.
What happens during a hearing test?
A conversation about you
Your hearing assessment will involve more than test for hearing loss; we talk with you about your health history to see if the causes of your hearing loss may lie with genetics, infection, or another external cause.
Your hearing care clinician will work with you to learn more about you as a person, beyond your ears, to improve your hearing and overall health.
The hearing test
At Wavefront Centre, we offer comprehensive audiometric assessments to get a full understanding of your hearing health.
You’ll sit in a comfy sound booth with headphones on to listen to various tones and respond when you hear them, even if they are very quiet. We also test your ability to understand words, as well as sentences in background noise.
Results and next steps
You’ll receive an explanation of your hearing test results on the same day as your test.
If management is recommended your clinician will then chat with you about a recommended treatment plan and see what you can do to help enhance your hearing, whether that’s with hearing aids or other hearing assistive technology.

What are the symptoms of hearing loss?
Quite often, we don’t realize how hearing loss is affecting our hearing until our day-to-day lives are changing as a result. Common symptoms of hearing loss include:
- Difficulty hearing people clearly and misunderstanding what they say, especially in loud environments
- Asking people to repeat themselves
- Difficulty hearing on the phone or turning up the volume on the TV
- Finding it hard to keep up with a conversation
- Feeling tired or stressed from concentrating too hard while listening
- Withdrawing from social situations
If you find that you or a loved one has been experiencing one or more of these symptoms, we encourage you to book a hearing test with us.
How often should I get my hearing tested?
Routine hearing tests can help you and your hearing care provider see how your hearing health changes as you age. We recommend getting your hearing tested at least every other year—make it as banal as scheduling your annual trip to the dentist.
