Kimberly Wood

Vice Chair

Kimberly Wood is the Founder and Chair of the Canada Deaf Grassroots Movement (CDGM), a national advocacy organization dedicated to advancing accessibility, equity, and inclusion for Deaf, DeafBlind, Hard of Hearing, Deaf Indigenous, and DeafDisabled communities across Canada.

With extensive experience in community leadership, accessibility policy, and public advocacy, Kimberly has actively participated in numerous federal and provincial consultations involving telecommunications, broadcasting, emergency services, housing accessibility, public transportation, education, and disability rights. Her work frequently focuses on improving communication accessibility through American Sign Language (ASL), Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ), accessible technology, and inclusive public policy development.

Kimberly has contributed to multiple Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) proceedings related to accessibility and consumer rights, advocating for stronger accountability measures and meaningful inclusion of Deaf communities in national decision-making processes. She also serves in advisory and governance roles within accessibility and community organizations, including involvement with municipal accessibility initiatives and public engagement projects.

A strong advocate for grassroots leadership, Kimberly is passionate about ensuring Deaf voices are represented at decision-making tables and that accessibility is treated as a fundamental human right rather than an afterthought. Her work emphasizes collaboration, lived experience, and community-driven solutions that create lasting systemic change.

Kimberly attended both Maryland School for the Deaf and Alberta School for the Deaf, experiences that deeply shaped her commitment to Deaf culture, language, education, and advocacy. She continues to support initiatives that strengthen Deaf leadership, accessibility awareness, and equitable participation across Canadian society.
